Guest Speaker – Vicki Mauck
Our guest speaker will be Vicki Mauck from the Hawaiian Fibromyagia support group, iFoG. Vicki moved to Makaha on the island of Oahu several years ago because her Fibro symptoms made her think she was dying and she wanted to be in a wonderful environment with the time she still had.
She began to search the internet about her symptoms and found reference to Dr. St. Amand and his Guaifenesin treatment. Her local doctor gave her contact information of some locals who were using the treatment protocol. From those contacts, in 2001, she began the protocol. “It was nice to find a group of ladies who understood what I was talking about and who didn’t think I was crazy!”
Before beginning the protocol says Vicki, “I wasn’t able to do much more than go out to eat, walk a little, and rest. I also sang in a Sweet Adelines chorus and on Tuesday nights, I’d stand and sit and lie on the risers for a couple of hours and then go home and recuperate for about 3 days! I’m now not only singing in 2 quartets, but I’m directing the chorus!”
After directing that chorus for 7 years, she joined a new chorus on Oahu and sang with them for 3 more years during which they won the Regional Small Chorus competition and proceeded to International Competition in Baltimore earning third place in that worldwide competition! In Vicki’s words, “Life is really good.”
Come join us on December 8th at 1 pm in the Atascadero Library to hear more from Vicki.
